We have walked all the way from the elaborate merchant houses of the 1700s to the streets of Poole in modernity.

A Place to Call Home

In the 1950s council housing was built. These towering blocks were a change in architectural style from the old buildings of Poole, but gave many families their first decent home. Through the centuries, power and opportunity had gradually been distributed more democratically, and daily life allowed for a higher quality of living.

Poole's beautiful shores draw tourists from all across the world who are given a warm welcome by those lucky enough to live and work here all year.

Skinner Street United Reform Church

The church was built in 1777 and is the oldest church building in Poole. A church dedicated
to the whole community; pews were even built especially for children.

The naturalist Phillip Henry Gosse was a part of the congregation. He is credited with creating the first successful marine aquarium.

Reverend John Clinch

Reverend John Clinch established the first Sunday school in Poole at Skinner Street United reform Church in 1787.
