This First World War Memorial stands tall in Bournemouth’s Central Gardens, opposite the Civic Centre. Created in 1920-22, it was designed by Bournemouth's deputy architect Albert Edward Shervey.

The Cenotaph’s classical style can be identified in its doric columns and depictions of classical urns. The structure is guarded by two stone lions, carved by stone mason WA Hoare. The two lions are copied from Antonio Canova's lions at the tomb of Pope Clement XIII. We encourage you to take a moment of reflection whilst visiting this memorial.
